Goooood Morning New Jersey!
On June 15th, my partner and I had the privilege of attending the Crystal Springs Beer & BBQ Festival!
For starters, have you ever been to the Crystal Springs resort in Hamburg, NJ?
Let me put it this way:
It is absolutely breath-taking.
If you ever want a mini vacation that keeps you close to home but gives you the overwhelming sensation of beauty and bliss – visit Crystal Springs.
Anywho, I parked in this lovely little parking lot and my first thought was, “where’s the festival?”
I then noticed a hill of grass, so I took a peak over the edge and BAM. An enormous white tend, music, food, tipsy adults, and of course – beer & cider vendors. The event was a great length away from the resort to make sure resort visitors that were not attending did not get interrupted. Kudos for the respectable set up!
My first encounter with the festival was the food…. I was absolutely starving. There were chicken wings, corn on the cob, cornbread, and other delicious BBQ foods along with a cute seating area right outside the tent.
Now to get down to business.
My partner and I were blown away by the amount of brewery representation. The festival was smaller than the New York Craft Beer Festival in NYC because the mission was to provide a complete experience – topped with music and dancing – and not just beer tasting.
So, after much deliberation, we decided to showcase these companies that stood out the most to us:
Our thoughts: Awesome summer beer. Honestly, it tastes more like a lemonade than a beer, but who cares? It’s delicious! A pretty good diversion from a standard shandy, with a nice spread of spices in addition to the lemon flavor. Would definitely get again. And again.
Our thoughts: What’s better than a fresh taste of Swedish paradise? I was so impressed by their presentation at the festival. When you first walk in, their table is right there and they use real fruit combinations for every drink served. It comes in unique flavors like passion fruit and strawberry-lime. I hope it comes to New York ASAP!
Our thoughts: Very interesting. It’s a good diversion from a normal lager, but while still keeping the drinkability. Hard to describe what makes it so interesting, but it does carry a pretty great balance of malts and hops. Definitely worth trying!
Overall, the festival was a great combination of celebration, beer, music, food, and dance. I never thought I’d see people three times my age breakin’ it down with their bad selves, but hey – they didn’t have a care in the world and I have to admit I regret not bringing my parents. There were plenty of new 21 year-olds – or fresh brews as I like to call ’em, a bachelorette party, and plenty of dads & their families! What a wonderful combination of celebration and leisure! (;
I’m tellin’ ya I almost didn’t leave. I was so ready to snag a hotel room at the beautiful resort and live the ultimate brew-getaway experience.
But that costs money and I’m a recent grad so…. Anyways!
Get out and enjoy the sunshine! Happy summer drinking!
