#SCBDEvent: @FairwayMarket’s Firefighter Food Face-Off, August 25th in Woodland Park, NJ

Passaic County’s Bravest will put down their axes, hoses and ladders and grab barbecue tongs, spatulas and basting brushes when they compete in The First Annual Fairway Firefighters Food Face-Off, a grilling “throwdown” that pits several local firehouses against one another to prove which one’s barbecue is best on Sunday, August 25th 2013 starting at noon at 1510 US 46 West, Woodland Park, NJ. (RAIN OR SHINE).

The winning firehouse will receive bragging rights as the best Passaic County Fire Department grilling teams  and a $500 gift card to the store. More importantly, the first place firehouse will select the charity of its choice to benefit from a Fairway Market “Shopping Night,” in which 25 % of sales will go to that charity.  Food will be available for $5 as this event will be a fundraiser for the Woodland Park 100th centennial event in May 2014 that Fairway Market is sponsoring.

Participating firehouses are West Paterson Fire Department, Totowa Fire Department, Little Falls Fire Department, Wayne Fire Department, and Hawthorne Fire Department. Using food donated by Fairway, the firefighters will cook their tastiest ribs, burgers, and chicken or vegetable skewers. All grillers will include in their burgers a secret ingredient that will be announced right before the contest begins.

Judges will be Keith Kazmark, Mayor of Woodland Park, Steve Jenkins, Fairway’s cheesemonger, Terry Krongold, from Jersey Bites, Leia Gaccione, Chef de Cuisine for Bobby Flay’s restaurant Mesa Grill, and our very own, Smallchickbigdeals.com founder, Sara Monica.

The event will also feature sampling of the firefighters’ fare and food from Fairway vendors, along with the music of The American Bombshells, giveaways, and face-painting for kids.

Fairway has a long-standing commitment to firefighters and continues to support these brave men and women with firehouse shopping discounts and unique community events at each of its 13 locations.

“Firefighters are famous for being terrific cooks and are justifiably proud of the firehouse cuisine they create,” said Bill Sanford, president of Fairway Market. “We really enjoy shining the spotlight on them and their grilling expertise and giving the community a chance to meet and greet these local heroes. Plus, it is all done for a good cause, making the event so meaningful and important.”

I know I am looking forward to judging all the different food that day, this one of my favorite Fairway stores so I am so happy to be part of this great event! Planning on coming out to the event! Make sure you let me know and say hi!
