Happy Irish Coffee Day!
Irish Coffee is about two great tastes that taste great together: whiskey and coffee. Today, we’re going to do a variation on the traditional drink, and also make an exciting Irish (Whipped) Cream!
Irish Coffee For Two
10-12 oz of coffee
1 cup (or 1/2 pint) of heavy cream
2 shots of whiskey
1/2 shot of Irish Mist (you can substitute brown sugar if you want)
1 tbsp of Irish cream liquor (doesn’t have to be Bailey’s)
Note: It helps to cool the bowl first before whipping the cream!
Whip it good- combine the heavy cream and Irish cream and use a hand mixer or stand mixer and whisk until it becomes whipped cream. If you’re feeling brave, blend by hand and then congratulate yourself on working out your arms.
Now put your whipped cream in the refrigerator.
Pour a shot of whiskey into each mug (traditional Irish Coffee mugs are glass, but if you don’t have that, you may use whatever you have on hand). Split the half a shot of Irish Mist into each coffee cup.
Brew and then pour your coffee of choice into your cups. Place whipped cream on top.
Pro-tip: Don’t make this recipe in the middle of the day and then type your blog article. Type the article first and then test it out. Then reaffirm the recipe works (it does!) and then go play with your cats.
Helpful tips from http://irishcoffeerecipe.com/classic-irish-coffee-recipe:
“Make sure that the whipped cream does not break the surface of the coffee. This may take some time to accomplish but with practice, you will get there.
Try using a warm spoon to add the whipped cream.
Try pouring the whip cream over the back of a spoon to help the cream float rather sink into the coffee mixture.”
If you want to keep it simple (boring), you can also use whipped cream from a can. Anyway you make it, I hope you enjoyed this recipe!
