One of my favorite things since founding SCBD has to be attending exclusive events with my team of foodies, fashionistas, and fitness lovers! We cover almost everything but as you may know food will always be my first love but it can’t hurt to look and feel good while doing so.This year, I attended the 2nd annual Montclair Food and Wine Festival which was fabulous and one of those events was the grand tasting that I attended alongside Alessia (who also co-founder of Jersey Girls Food Tours, stay tuned for details) and Jessica who also used to intern for SCBD. We had an amazing time filled with wine and food but I will let Alessia take it away from here… On Saturday May 31st, I attended the three-hour Grand Tasting of the Montclair Food and Wine Festival held at the impressive Montclair Art Museum. If you were at the inaugural festival last year, it was easy to see the improvements made to ensure a flawless event. The Food Meets Art theme allowed guests to tour the galleries while enjoying food offerings from some of the state’s best restaurants, and wine and spirits coordinated by Gary’s Wine and Marketplace. The event was classy, elegant and had an ample variety of tastings!
Jessica and Sara on the red carpet
After taking photos on the red carpet, I was checked in and handed an engraved wine glass that read “Montclair Food and Wine Festival 2014.” In addition to the main atrium downstairs, several tables were set up in the lobby area. I was lucky to grab the last West Coast Oyster from Fin Raw Bar! Both the oysters and clams were fresh and delicious. Fricassee and Ryland Inn also had samples at adjacent tables, but eager to head downstairs, I grabbed a tasting of Sancerre and proceeded to the main atrium. The high-ceiling room, including the small stage on one end, fit an impressive array of vendors. Above on the balcony, 3rdValve Jazzperformed live music for the crowd. An hour or so into the event, the retracting roof over the atrium opened, illuminating guests and table offerings, creating an even lovelier ambiance. Here is a list of each our favorite vendors: Jessica– Ruthie’s — Located on 64 Chestnut Street in Montclair, Ruthie’s Specializes in barbeque and pizza. At Ruthie’s table, I sampled their macaroni and cheese, which was made with four cheeses and had olives in it. This dish was to die for! It was by far one of the best macaroni and cheese i have ever tasted! Millies Old World Pizza & Meatballs — Located on 60 South St In Morristown NJ Millie’s is always a hit! At their table they sampled their fresh Mozzarella, and their two different kinds of meatballs, one with marinara and one with vodka sauce. Their Chef Peter Martinez was in attendance handing out samples and answering any questions guests had. Little Daisy Bakeshop — Located on 622 Valley rd in Montclair. Little Daisy Bakeshop had by far the most samplings to offer! Since I am a huge fan of desserts I tried to sample one of each of their desserts. They had mini whoopie pies, cheesecake bites, red velvet balls and many more! Their bakeshop is a nut and peanut-free bakeshop for those who have allergies. They offer custom cakes, cupcakes and cookie flavors. I will definitely be making a trip to Little Daisy Bakeshop soon! Alessia– Himachi ceviche with yuzu from Orange + Olive Caterer’s and Chef’s Table (Jersey City), the beautiful display of different bites from Tia’s Food of Love (Montclair), and the extensive spread of sweets from Little Daisy Bake Shop (Montclair). Sara– I loved the macarons from Asalt & Buttery, they were phenomenal. I also loved the hamachi ceviche with yuzu from O & O Caterers. I also loved trying A Toute Heure & so many other businesses.
