Last Monday, Antoinette, Fay and I got to experience the press preview to one of Moorestown’s newest and hottest restaurant openings, Distrito. Distrito is serving up some of delicious modern Mexican fare and cocktails– family style and for a reasonable price. The restaurant was created by Iron Chef Jose Garces. The atmosphere is warm and fun and reminds you of the streets of Mexico. Dishes like tacos de pollo, guacamole, and street corn are not to be missed and the watermelon margaritas are AMAZING!!! Now you heard enough of my faves, so here’s Fay & Antoinette’s dish on the restaurant opening!

Fay’s POV:

Imagine driving down route 38 and seeing bright lights hanging over very colorful outdoor seating, a hot pink sign that reads Distrito. You wander inside to see a wrap around marquee that reads all of the information you wanted to know about happy hour and more and a decor that’s to die for. Well welcome to Distrito, Moorestown New Jerseys new slice of city we have all been waiting for. A little piece of paradise with the authentic feel and colorful scheme that will keep drawing you back in.On Tuesday we were able to experience Distrito first had and have nothing but wonderful things to say. If you are looking to save five dollars and the hassle of parking in Philly this is your new one stop shop. Chef Jose Garces and his designers really brought the taste of the city right to our backyard and we couldn’t be more thrilled. The drinks alone would make me come back; the watermelon margarita tasted fresh and cool while the homemade chips and salsa really hit that summer spot. The indoor setting is just as charming as the patio with a unique art like a mask wall, beautiful flooring, unique accents and a private back room for parties and get-togethers. Distrito is the perfect happy hour spot for you and your friends to kickback and forget about the world. The restaurant also offers brunch and a full menu sure to please any palate. The service is also some of the best I have seen with friendly staff and unique uniforms that really brighten up the room. Everyone we ran into on Tuesday made the experience top notch I highly recommend Distrito to anyone looking for a unique authentic Mexican dining experience, trust me you will not be disappointed!

After much anticipation, South Jersey finally has a taste of modern Mexico with the opening of Iron Chef Jose Garces’ Distrito at the Moorestown Mall. Distrito is a welcomed addition to the Moorestown Mall which has been expanding its dining offerings since the addition of Firebirds Wood Fire Grill and Chef Marc Vetri’s Osteria last year. After touring the space I can tell you that the festivities begin as soon as you enter the door. Large focal points included a marquee sign that runs the length of the bar and the wall of luchador masks in a red, silver and gold color scheme. The overall menu include traditional fare such as guacamole, nachos and tacos and several riffs on Mexican street food. My best bites of the evening were the “Ceviche de Camarones”- a shrimp ceviche with a refreshing spicy tomato and avocado puree; Esquites- a spicy corn salad with queso fresco reminiscent of grilled Mexican street corn and the Taco Pescado- a crispy Mahi-mahi with a red cabbage slaw, avocado and chipotle remoulade. The Overall, the dining experience at Distrito takes you right out of the suburbs of a South Jersey mall and transports you into the heart of Mexico City. South Jerseyans will be delighted to enjoy Iron Chef Garces’ take on a Mexican cantina on our side of the Delaware River.
