If you are looking for a new show to watch on Bravo this week make sure you tune in for Jersey Belle this Monday at 10PM EST. Jersey Belle follows the life of Jaime Primak, a Monmouth county native, Freehold to be exact living with her husband and kids in Alabama. The show unlike most shows on Bravo is a comedy and is really based on Jaime’s life and her adventures in the South with family and friends. I caught up with Jaime earlier this week to get an exclusive interview on the show, growing up in Freehold, what to expect, her favorite local places & more!
SCBD: Jersey Belle premieres this Monday, what should we expect to see on the show?
JP: You’ll see how life is for a Jersey Girl who is always looking to push the envelope acts and is perceived in the afluent South. Even when I’m not in NJ I am always representing how NJ really is and am a true Jersey Girl or in this case, Jersey Belle. You really see the culture divide between the North and the South. If it were up to me I’d still be living and raising my kids in Freehold. I’d be eating Terrace Bagels, blasting WPLJ, eating Italian food especially Federicis and more. My guilty pleasure is Z100 on Sirius FM. Last, you’ll see how my friends lovingly try to get me to embrace the Southern culture.
SCBD: It’s great to see another Monmouth county native on tv, especially one who is a successful publicist. Did you ever think you’d star in your own show and live in AL of all places?
JP: I never had aspirations of having my own show. But I’ve always wanted to be a producer and love that I am a creative producer for the show. I’ve been a publicist for 12 years so producing and story-telling has always come naturally to me and is what I do daily. It was the best feeling when we came up with the idea for the show and finally got it right. I am also working with another Freehold native, the president of Thunder Road Productions to work on a movie inspired by my journey!
SCBD: What’s one adventure in AL we should look forward to seeing? Do you make a visit to NJ at all?
JP: Yes, Monday September 8th look out for the episode where we come to NJ. I come home and give them my full NJ experience. In general, everything we do on the show is an adventure and not what I was used to or exposed growing up in NJ like going to shooting ranges, and more. But my girlfriends & I have enough common interests to try new things together because we love each other.
SCBD: When you come home to Freehold where are your favorite places to visit?
JP: I LOVE and miss my friends from home all the time. When I come home it is always a production. A whole group of us Freehold alum get together at places like Moore’s for drinks and catch up. It’s usually about 20-30 of us. Like I mentioned earlier, I love Terrace Bagels, onion & mushroom pizza, well done at Federici’s on Main Street, and Jersey Freeze. I also always make it a point to stop at the Freehold Mall and go to Nordstrom because there is none here. I also love Jenk’s during the summer. I was born and raised in Freehold and that’s where my foundation comes from. I even have a NJ tattoo on my hand, that’s real. There’s nothing like going back to where you grew up and had important events in your life happen. I love Freehold, NJ.
SCBD: What advice do you have for someone who aspires to be a publicist?
JP: Know what your brand is and what kind of publciity you want to focus on and find a mentor from there. Don’t pick something too broad and make sure you look at someone’s career and their track record with their clients not necessarily who they represent. You want a mentor who knows how to give someone a great comeback.
SCBD: Do we get to see behind of the scenes of your work life and dealing with your (celebrity) clients too? Your personal life?
JP: Yes my job is a huge part of who I am so you’ll definitely see me taking client calls, traveling and going on meeting with my clients. In the 2nd episode you see me to travel to LA for work. If you love old school hip-hop you’ll love the show because I represent artists like MC Lyte, Dougie Fresh, and more. I love what I do and always have a great time, attending client shows and more. Also, one of my clients makes an appearance on the NJ episode but you’ll have to tune in to find out who. Yes of course, you’ll see my personal life too, being a publicist, hanging with my friends and raising three kids all under the age of 6.
SCBD: Last, what motto(s) do you live by?
JP: “Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.” – Bruce Springsteen (Jersey’s own)
“Rejection is God’s protection.” I preach that to my kids all the time.
