Have you ever been walking through the ice cream aisle of the grocery store and seen a Talenti gelato container beckoning you? If you suffer from this common affliction, you’re in luck. Through October 15, every Tuesday in Bryant Park (40th Street Between 5th & 6th Avenue) from 3-4 pm it’s “Happy Spoons Happy Hour” where you can get a free sample in the form of a full cup. Since I work in Rockefeller Center getting to free gelato is as easy as one stop on the subway. Whether this is a blessing in disguise or not, only time will tell.
After living in South America and discovering his unrequited love for gelato, founder joshua Hochschuler opened a gelateria in Dallas. Aside from its distinct packaging, Talenti brings something different to the table. Talenti sources its ingredients globally like Belgian chocolate and Tahitian vanilla beans from Papua New Guinea to create their authentic flavors. Their gelato is gluten free with the exception of a few flavors and contains less fat than ice cream. It’s also delicious which doesn’t hurt.
On my gelato pilgrimage, I chose to try two flavors, Sea Salt Caramel and Southern Butter Pecan, because two scoops of gelato is always better than one. I already liked Talenti from a container in my freezer, but having it fresh was another story entirely. It was the perfect treat for the middle of a long work day. I definitely recommend checking out the pop-up if you find yourself in Midtown Manhattan.
Can’t make it for Happy Hour? No problem! The pop-up is open from 11:30 am to 8:00 am daily, and from 11:30 am to 9 pm every Monday through August 18th for HBO Move Nights.
