Sara and I recently had the opportunity to check out Birravino located in Red Bank, NJ. Birravino is an Italian restaurant owned by Vic Rallo, host of Eat! Drink! Italy! on Create TV. It was formally Basil T but they came up with this new concept and it is amazing! From the moment we stepped in the restaurant, I knew that it was going to be an amazing meal! The atmosphere in there was so welcoming and it had the decor of a chic city restaurant.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and really helped us to pick out some of the best dishes. Since we are big wineos, we were excited to try some wine off of their extensive Italian wine list. Our waiter told us that the owners tried 1,000 wines to find only the best for the restaurant! I can definitely vouch that they did a great job with the choices.
We started out with some prosciutto with cheese and olives. It really was the perfect appetizer to start with. They slice the prosciutto very thinly and it’s very fresh. We also got some calamari and I was very impressed. I’m used to calamari being served fried but this was cooked with a spicy sauce that consisted of tomato, capers, hot pepper, fennel, and garlic. We both loved it!
Our next course was a broccoli and cauliflower pizza. It had a great combination of cheeses that worked so well with the broccoli and cauliflower.Of course we had to try some pasta and we went with the Strozzapreti bolognese. The sauce had beef, veal, pork, Italian tomato, fennel and mascarpone on top. The flavor was great and it tasted really fresh. That definitely was my favorite dish that we tried. The last dish that we tried was the hangar steak special. It was delicious, and was cooked just right. No dinner would be complete without dessert and even though we were pretty full, we split one! We decided to go with the tiramisu which was served in a really cute mason jar! It was mascarpone, espresso, and lady fingers.
It really was the perfect way to end our meal. The staff at Birravino is so knowledgeable about the food they serve and really treat their customers like family. If you are looking for a quality Italian restaurant with fresh ingredients and authentic dishes, Birravino is definitely the spot to go to! I can’t wait to go back!
